Yin Xiuzhen, Portable Cities (2008)
Inspired by the transient feeling of living in the age of technology, Yin Xiuzhen created Portable Cities to capture her want for permanence. Yin filled suitcases with cement and layered her old clothes into the cement. She then constructed buildings and structures to model famous cities and cities in China on top of the foundation using scraps from clothes. Yin aimed to prove that every item of clothing has a story about the wearer and can be used to construct a map of one's life.
