In China, there is a large distinction between feminist art and female art.  Though Chinese society is progressive in many ways, the majority of Chinese female artists do not consider themselves feminist artists.  Many successful female Chinese artists have only received attention because of the fame of their artist spouse.  By looking at the art of some of China's best-known female artists, one can gain a better understanding of Chinese society as a whole.
